With the October 14th release of Sixpence None The Richer's first full-length release since breaking up in 2003, a Christmas project entitled The Dawn Of Grace, approaching, the duo has posted a new song online for fans. Guitarist, songwriter Matt Slocum also shared the story behind the Christmas original, "The Last Christmas"...
"'The Last Christmas' was written as my wife and I were expecting our first daughter, who incidentally was born this past August. As friends and family were often telling us at the time, our child would signal a new season for my wife and I. Indeed, nothing would ever be the same again. Of course, instinctively we knew this to be true, but as the days progressed, and our daughter grew in the womb, we both began to identify in our own way with what Mary and Joseph may have felt, that their lives would never be the same, that their child would bring about a new era. The lyric is an attempt to express this sentiment. One interesting discovery in the process of writing the lyric was that the word "Advent" means "the birth of a child", and that every mother and father experiences, in their own way, their own personal Advent.
